video projection and wall text, 8’6”, 2016

The “name game” is a game in which participants toss a ball while calling the name of person in order to memorize unknown people’s names when entering into a new, unknown group. Name Toss transforms the name game into something new: when close, participants call family titles normally used in the familial setting, such as “my daughter,” “my baby brother,” “honey (yeobo).” While stepping away from one another, they begin to call the official names of their counterparts.
